No matter how much emphasis we place on active safety, some accidents are simply unavoidable. That's why the new M-Class includes comprehensive passive safety measures to help protect you and your passengers from harm.

Fitted as standard for the driver and front passenger, the crash-responsive Neck-Pro active head restraints significantly reduce the risk of whiplash injuries. In the event of a front or rear-end collision they automatically move up and forward, supporting the neck and preventing the head from whipping backwards.

The new M-Class features driver and passenger airbags as standard. Airbags inflate in multiple stages depending on the severity of the collision. We've also fitted a new knee airbag in the front passenger footwell.

At Mercedes-Benz, we take seat belt design seriously. After all, it's possibly the single most important piece of passive safety equipment. The M-Class features three-point front seat belts with belt-force limiters, buckle-type tensioners and manual belt-height adjustment.

If a serious accident occurs, the M-Class initiates a range of safety measures, including automatic engine cut-off and automatic door unlocking. Hazard warning lights and interior lighting are also activated. This helps the driver and passengers to find their bearings and enables emergency services to locate the vehicle - and rescue its occupants - more easily.
